Case Video cervical myelopathy

We would like to share a new exciting video with you.

This is a anterior cervical discectomy (ACD) at C6/C7 level for a cervical myelopathy. The procedure was performed by Dr. Morgenstern from Barcelona with MaxMoreSpine instruments.

You can watch the video here

Surgical notes:

The surgeon can make a 3-4 cm incision on the neck, only a few do a discectomy open, because usually too much damage will occur if it is done open (ligaments, intervertebral discs, etc.).

That is why most surgeons who prefer open surgery clean a cage (fusion, i.e. an ACDF) or a prosthesis after the discectomy / decompression of the intervertebral disc. The advantage of endoscopy is that you can do a very precise discectomy, you will not damage ligaments and a large part of the intervertebral disc and thus avoid the fusion.

In some cases it would be good to be able to bring in a cage. That is something to discuss. In addition, the dura can be seen very well with endoscopy, so there is less risk of injuring it during decompression
