We would like to share an interesting case from Dr Hussam Jabri: the innovative technique of anterior endoscopic cervical transcorporeal epidural abscess drainage in a 59 year old gentleman with rapidly progressing quadriplegia and septic shock.
He had anterior epidural abcess from C3 to C7 with cord compression and odema on top of dengenerative cervical stenosis; patient is a known cardiac and had a 4 % burn on his left shoulder; because his cigarette fell down on the sofa when he lost his power.
He underwent uneventful transcorporeal C7 drainage of abcess.
Benefits:
– Transcorporeal endoscopic approach present an
alternative MIS technique to ACDF/ corpectomy
with the added morbidity of these procedure in
older patients; especially in my case of
hemodinamiclly unstable pateint.
– Decrease cost.
– No risk of fusion.
– No foreign bodies used in infected patient.
– Less operative time and invaiveness.
– 4 mm drilled track in the vertebral body will
remodeled and heal within 3-6 months.
